SCHILLER PARK, Ill. – Oct. 25, 2006 – Life Fitness recognized Ron Williams, 67, of Downers Grove, in honor of the 29 times he’s completed the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon and the more than $100,000 he has raised through Team in Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Williams was presented with Life Fitness’ new cardiovascular exercise product, the Summit Trainer, at the LLS pre-race Carbo-load dinner at the Swissotel on Oct. 21.
“Ron’s dedication to fitness and to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is an inspiration,” said Jaime Burger, product manager at Life Fitness. “This year also marks Life Fitness’ 29th anniversary, so it was fitting for us to recognize an athlete who has committed to an event like the Chicago Marathon for nearly three decades.”
After a young relative survived a bout with Leukemia, Williams decided to use his running to raise funds for the LLS. Today he has contributed more than $100,000 in eight years with Team in Training. The average Team in Training runner raises $3,500 in individual funds. Williams generates between $12,000 and $15,000 annually.
“As long as my body holds out, I’m kind of stuck with keeping this record going,” chuckled Williams. “I still enjoy it though, and as long as I can, I’ll stick with it.”
The dinner gathered together almost 1,000 runners, close to 500 from Illinois, who participated in the 29th LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. The LLS Chicago chapter was founded in 1988. Nationwide the society has had over 295 thousand participants who have raised more than $660 million.
The Life Fitness Summit Trainer combines the best of total body cross-training and climbing with an upper and lower body workout that stimulates a trek in the mountains. The cardiovascular exercise product retails for approximately $5,000. Life Fitness, the global leader in fitness equipment, served as an Associate Sponsor of the 2006 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon
